I started my Journey in Chicago to attend a friend's wedding. Having a few days spare before continuing on my travels, I decided to write to the Joffrey Ballet to take class. The studios are located in downtown Chicago with the sounds of the city buzzing in the back whilst the company works. Surprisingly, there were some familiar faces along with some new acquaintances which is always nice for me. The Joffrey is a relatively small company with approximately 47 dancers, which from my perspective creates a pleasant working atmosphere.
The Joffrey have a diverse repertoire of modern and classical ballets allowing the dancers to explore more than just one way of moving. They are currently working on a new creation by John Neumeier which will have it's world premiere on September the 23rd. The dancers seem to be enthralled in the work, and I was happy I got to watch a bit of the rehearsal process.
