For the past six years. I have been a dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet. This experience has been extremely rewarding for me, not only because I was able to achieve my dream of becoming a soloist, but because of the invaluable artistic experiences it offered me and the wonderful friendships I forged. In the meantime, of course, I have found new dreams, and my journey with the Stuttgart Ballet will come to an end this summer. My reasoning for this decision will be explain in time through the blog.
In October, I will travel to Argentina to explore tango. One part of my interest relates to my own career as a dancer - I want to discover and delight in as many forms of dance as possible - and the other part is to see the way that dance can form and inform a sense of community. There is a lot to explore within this. Who are the people who dance tango? Do schools teach their students to appreciate tango as part of their heritage? What changes has the tango scene undertaken over time, and how has the art form reacted to Argentina’s political upheavals?
To answer these and other questions, and to share my exploration with as many people as possible, I want to document my journey. The form that this documentation will take depends on the sort of funding I’m able to obtain. Ideally, I would like to shoot the documentary, but this depends on whether or not I can find and finance a quality production team. The next option would be to create a blog, which would in any case require decent camera equipment, so that the videos can evidence some production values. I will be documenting my travels through the BalletWorks website.
We are very excited to see where this will take BalletWorks as we do our best to keep reaching new audiences, while collaborating with various different artists.
All my love,
